Detailed Description

Massive four day session hedging recently re-opened Motorway. This involved 10 distinct volunteers and 46 hours of work.

Day 1: Keith and Sharon kicked things off by starting the hedging on Thursday. His report is as follows:

Started brushing here: 33°44’;58.1”;N 117°35’;15.4”W

Finished brushing here: 33°44’;58.1”;N 117°35’;15.4”W

About 1/10 mile cleared. Sharon hiked up to the 2-mile mark before descending back to me.

Met with a motorcycle ascending somewhere around around 11:00 am, here: 33.749731, -117.587635, white male, 30’s or 40’s. We had a polite, courteous chat. After admitting that he wasn’t aware that motorized traffic on the singletracks in the National Forest is not allowed, he and I had a good 20-second stare down before I asked if he was planning to continue up.

He said he was, so I thought, “so you’re both ignorant and entitled.” Stepped aside to allow him to pass.

I called Kevin at the Corona office, on the off chance that a ranger might be close by, but was told by Kevin that he had no idea of the whereabouts of any patrolling staff.

I did send a text to Jake Rodriquez, just as an FYI.

Really would like to see some stepped up enforcement on this trail to deter the motorized traffic.

All in all, a pretty cool day for middle of June. I saw one Chocolate Lilly, Sharon saw another on her trail patrol, seeing them is always a treat.

Day 2: Juneteenth Holiday a big group of us went out:

The crew started brushing here: 33.749700, -117.587580

Finished brushing here: 33.755860, -117.593100

About 1.2-miles cleared

Darshan started early and started brushing here: 33.756430, -117.591940 and finished brushing here: 33.755660, -117.592200. This is where the power lines cross over the singletrack, about three-quarters the way up the trail.

About .1 mile cleared.

Didn’t see anyone else out on the trail.

Day 3: Darshan continued solo hedging from his high point:

Darshan went out again to finish the upper part of the trail. He hedged from where he left off the day prior to the big rocky left turn (right before the beginning of the steepest section of Motorway). Darshan ran into Val and Brian in which Val exclaimed Darshan was a legend. Takes one to know one!

Day 4: Smaller group worked the entrance:

Cut back vegetation encroaching into the trail corridor starting at the trailhead to the giant California Sycamore ( 33.74986, -117.58624). Total mileage cleared: 0.4 miles.
