Detailed Description
Arrived at the Maple Springs trailhead in Silverado Canyon around 5:45 am, still dark. Surprised to find 4 other vehicles parked. More on that later. Glad to see the forest gate closed and locked, what with Tuesday’s rains. Weather was fantastic, partly cloudy skies and cooler temps made for a great working environment. During the course of the day, I encountered and chatted with 3 separate hunters and one hiker. This explains the other vehicles parked at the trailhead when I had arrived. The hiker is a Silverado Canyon resident, Julius by name. He hiked up to Beford Peak and back. Two of the three hunter had never been on the Silverado Motorway, while the third had previously hiked the trail. All three reported seeing deer, but no bucks. All had indicated that they’d be back tomorrow.
