Detailed Description
We met at the dirt lot at the end of South Main Street on the Corona side of the Santa Anas at 6:45am, where Main Street trail exits. We began pedaling shortly after 7AM; we all carried backpacks as the mission was to pull an abandoned encampment from Pleasants Peak summit.
We took the Eagle Road up to Main Divide and then Main Divide to Pleasants Peak. On the way, we encountered several runners as it was Aravaipa Running’s “That’s No Moon” trail run. We also explored many singletrack “shortcuts” on the side of Main Divide as we made our way over to Pleasants Peak. These shortcuts kept the arduous Main Divide approach entertaining and interesting.
We all summitted Pleasants Peak around 9AM to meet Adam, who had arrived about 30 minutes earlier. He had approached from the Blackstar Canyon Trailhead.
When we arrived on the summit, we saw Adam had already broken down the encampment and gathered nearly all the trash, ready for us to split it up. There were a few pieces of trash Adam couldn’t reach. Blaine bravely crawled on his belly to retrieve the remainder of the trash. We split up the trash among all of us to equally share the haul on the technical descent back to the cars.
We said goodbye to Adam, who was to return to Blackstar, and the rest of us carefully descended the summit pitch. Then Blaine led us down Main Street, which provided us over 2200’ of vertical descent. There were a few crashes on Main Street, but thankfully none resulted in serious injury.
We gathered about 3 full size trash bags of junk from the summit.
